Soldiers Kill 10 Boko Haram Insurgents, Dislodge Sect From Borno Base

The Nigerian Military had recorded  success in dislodging Boko Haram terrorists from their base in Tumbarka, Borno State, killing ten insurgents in the operation. The raid also led to the capture of several rifles, locally made guns and the destruction of 15 motorcycles used by the elements.
In another successful operation within the area, a roadblock mounted by the insurgents and used to extort money, food items, fuel and lubricants for their vehicles, was also dismantled but no arrests were made as the insurgents fled at the approach of the army.
The Director General, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. Mike Omeri, who disclosed this at the National Security Briefing Centre on Sunday said that the counter-insurgency operations in the North East and parts of North Central has progressed effectively in favour of Nigerian soldiers who have gained the upper hand against the insurgents, who are now in disarray in every battlefield.
Omeri also appealed to Nigerians irrespective of their status and background to refrain from making inflammatory statements capable of overcharging the tense situation in the country and allow the nation’s security personnel to do their work professionally.Omeri said recent statements credited to politicians and elders from a particular geopolitical zone could increase the insecurity in the country rather than reduce it.
He assured that the arrest of 35 buses travelling in the night with predominantly male passengers was not an attempt to clampdown on any ethnic group. The wanted Boko Haram kingpin who was discovered among the travellers has been moved to Abuja where operatives disclosed that he has been providing useful information.
“When security personnel noticed the unusual movement of 35 buses in one direction at that time of the night, the interception became necessary. It was not targeted at anyone, any religion or any region. The suspects arrested are still undergoing interrogation by security operatives.”
He appealed, especially to “well-placed individuals, citizens and groups to restrain themselves from making uninformed comments or statements and assumptive prepositions that mislead the general public who desire peace in the land.”
