Two Girls Found Dead in Shallow Stream in Ebonyi

Okpuitumo community in Abakaliki local government area of Ebonyi state, were weekend reportedly found dead in a shallowstream in the area.The corpses of the two children, Ibuchi Nwangele, 8, and Oruomachi Nwangele, 2, were found in the night by some individuals close to the stream.

Worried by the incident, the State Governor, Chief Martin Elechi and the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Maigari Dikko and Senator Chris Nwankwo visited the bereaved family to ascertain what could have led to the deaths.  In his account, the traditional ruler of the Ndegu Okpuitumo community, Eze Pius Nwangele told Governor Elechi and his team that the corpses of the two children were discovered at 8′Oclock in the night last Friday at a shallow stream in the village.He explained that the community undertook an intensive search for the children for some weeks when nobody could give a vivid account of their where about.

The traditional ruler said the community suspected a foul play by the co-wife of the father of the children, one Mrs. Felicia Nwangele who had been having running battles with her co-wife and mother of the dead children.The royal father disclosed that he had intervened many times in the family feud between the father of the children, Mr. Christopher Nwangele and his two wives.

He said the matter took a twist when the first wife attempted to sell the second wife into slavery and had arranged thugs to beat up her husband.  The prime suspect, Mrs. Felicia Nwangele had been arrested by the police for interrogation and prosecution.
The Governor in his reaction expressed shock and anger at the death of the two children assuring that the state government would probe into the deaths and unravel the circumstances surrounding it.Elechi directed the Commissioner of Police to ensure that an autopsy was conducted and proper investigations carried out. Our correspondent learnt that the Governor made undisclosed cash donation to the grieving mother of the diseased children.
