PDP WANTS TO KILL ME – Amitolu Shittu

Being the text of press conference addressed by the Director General De Raufs Volunteer Group, Comrade Amitolu Shittu, at De Raufs Secretariat Osogbo on 3rd of August 2014.

Gentlemen of the press,

It is unfortunate I will be addressing a press conference on threat to my life during a democratic regime, more unfortunate the threat to life is coming at a time when we are consolidating development in my dear state and we are hopeful the rest of the country will learn from our state.

My Sojourn in politics of Osun is as old as the state itself, since the creation of the state of Osun, I have been one of the leading advocates of development, I have challenged and confronted military administration and civilian autocrats on issues of welfare of my people. As an active participant during the June 12 1993 struggle, which I was sent to detention on many occasion, today I have no regret whatsoever on my decision to pay price for liberty.

Besides, I contested as Deputy Governor in 2003 gubernatorial election under the banner of National Conscience Party led by my late leader and mentor, Chief Ganiyu Oyesola Fawehinmi (SAN,SAM) may almighty God be pleased with him.

Gentlemen, Since the beginning of Aregbesola Administration, my participation in political space has increased, due to the unprecedented development of my state by Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola which is in conformity with the yearning and aspiration of our people and my age-long struggle. I therefore have no apology for supporting a people-driven administration which I know does not go well with some individuals, especially the opposition party PDP.

For some days now, unknown person have been trailing my movement, and my office have been attacked by PDP thugs and the Director of Mobilisation was equally attacked. It is on this premise and on the many masked men moving around my office with a no- number vehicle I considered my life endangered.

I still can’t imagine why people will derive joy in killing fellow human being in the name of politics, but prominent Nigerians had been killed in the past in a politically mysterious situation and our security and justice system are powerless in the face of these killings.

Let me be candid with you, I comrade Amitolu Shittu is not afraid of death because death is inevitable end of every mortal being but it will be very unfortunate if that death is as a result of failed politician with the grand conspiracy of security apparatus aided by the central government.

I am therefore alerting the international community and friends and comrades across the world that Nigeria democracy is drifting away towards anarchy, it is a shame we are nurturing our democracy by militarisation.
